CHICLANA AND DISTRICT AGE CONCERN PROJECT
January 2011 Update  Written by Edwin Cherrey

In order to establish a fully affiliated Chiclana and District Age Concern Organisation we set ourselves a target of Euros 3000 to cover legal expenses and leave us with sufficient capital to cover initial costs of training volunteers. Our fund raising activities have so far raised in excess of Euros 1600 and we have a number of forthcoming functions in the pipeline which we hope will enable us to achieve full affiliation by early summer.

We owe thanks to The International Women’s Association who have made Age Concern Espana their charity of the year and have already donated Euros 600 which has been “ring fenced” for our project. Two of their committee members, Ann Randall and Marie Gomez are now actively engaged as members of our executive committee and doing sterling work.

We also owe thanks to David and Angela Pallett who organised a highly successful afternoon garden party complete with “white elephant stall” and “homemade curry stall”. Our thanks also go to the numerous volunteers who donated not only homemade produce but also their valuable time. Thanks to their combined efforts a total of Euros 440 was raised.

Julia and Colin Wood continue to raise funds on a regular monthly basis by organising and running very successful “quiz nights” at Domingos Restaurant. The next quiz will be held on Wednesday 16th February.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS

We are holding a Burns Night Supper at Domingos Restaurant on Tuesday 25th January with traditional Burns  Night menu of “haggis, neeps and tatties” followed by Scottish country dancing. Tickets are priced at Euros 15 and are almost sold out.

On 14th February there will be a low cost “Anti Crisis” Valentines Night in Browns Bar, admission will be only Euros 5, tickets will be limited to fifty and will be available from Browns Bar. There will be a free finger buffet, free Valentines Quiz and free Bingo (with prizes)

On Saturday 12th March we are holding the First Annual Age Concern Golf Tournament at Villa Nueva Golf, Puerta Real. Villa Nueva Golf have been very generous both financially and in devoting a great deal of time in planning this events. Again, as with all of our fund raising events, the proceeds will be paid to Age Concern Espana and “ring fenced” for our project.  Full details of cost and format are as set out in our advertisement.  (See Whats On section for advert)

BREAKING NEWS (One for your Diary)

On 29th April there will be a Royal Wedding Party in the style of a traditional British street party which is being organised on our behalf by a group of local volunteers. The organisers are looking at various venues where the party can be organised complete with live television coverage of the actual event. Full details will be released in the near future.
