At the meeting held at the Teatro Moderno on Wednesday 3rd March, Sarah Rogers, the Age Concern country casework manager from the British Consulate, addressed the audience regarding the benefits of, and potential for, setting up a Chiclana branch of "Age Concern Espana".
As a result we now have two volunteers who are prepared to take on the role of caseworkers and also to actively engage in the setting up a local branch. Such a branch would have to be legally set up as a charity, which would require some finance, and further volunteers would be required to act as visitors, shoppers etc for those requiring help.
It was obvious from what Sarah Rodgers told us that there is a huge fund of knowledge and expertise available through the British Consulate and Spanish Social Services which would be available to those aged fifty and above, and, bearing in mind that that we have an ageing expatriate community in this area, the benefits which could accrue are huge .These benefits have already been demonstrated on the Costa del Sol, where they have a well established branch in Estepona.
A meeting will be held on 14th April at 11am to discuss this matter further and all are welcome, particularly those who feel that they could help out in the day to day running of the operation once it commences or have any ideas about fund raising.
We will advise the venue as soon as we know how many people would like to attend. Please email
to book your place.
If you cannot attend on this date but would like to be involved in some way then please send your contact details to the same email and we will keep you informed of any future meetings.
