ChiFRA Spanish Classes
Thursday, 09 August 2012

Greetings from ChiFRA Spanish,

It’s that time again, perhaps a bit late getting started – on our part.  Be that as it may, we’re cranking up this fall’s Spanish classes.  So let’s get going…..

Rather than try to reconstruct last year’s classes (although we will do this as much as we can once we know who wants to participate) we’re just going to ask who intends to join the classes and what level they are at. As a starting point, we’ll use 10 September to 7 December for the dates and about 60 Euros for the cost of the 12 weeks.  Understand that we need eight students per class to do it at that cost.  We can schedule fewer students per class but it will cost a bit more.  At the moment Flori is available until January; after that we’re not sure, and we’ll try to use the same venue (upstairs at the Casa del Pueblo).

If you’re not sure which level to study at the following will give you an idea:

Level One/Basic – a true “starter’s” class.  You will be taught as if you have VERY LITTLE Spanish capability/experience.  There was a notable demand for this level.

Level Two/Pre-intermediate – for the student who is not a “true starter” and has some basic experience and perhaps previous instruction.  You have a basic vocabulary and understand some degree of verb categories and tenses.  Taught mostly in English with some Spanish explanations, etc. included.

Level Three/Intermediate – for the student who is speaking Spanish, but not well.  This student should be able to put together phrases with a variety of verb tenses.  They have a pretty good vocabulary and are looking to start putting things together more correctly.  The course will be taught mostly in Spanish, with limited English backup.

Level Four/Advanced – for the student who speaks Spanish pretty well.  Speaks in full sentences with mostly correct verb usage/tenses.  These students will have a very good vocabulary and WANT to be able to speak correctly using the appropriate tenses/number/gender, etc.  The course
will include considerable conversation and will be taught completely in Spanish.

We look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.  Please respond to us at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

ChiFRA Spanish Classes Autumn Session
Saturday, 16 July 2011

ChiFRA's autumn session of Spanish language classes will begin on 13 September and run for 12 weeks.  Students who were involved in the last session have already been contacted but if you are interested in attending there are currently places available at all levels. We are trying to hold the cost down to 50 euros but this will only be possible if there are enough students in each class. The venue is likley to be the classroom at the PSOE building that we’ve used for the past two sessions.

The current plan (tentative) is to have Jackie’s Level 1 on Wednesdays starting at 10:00 – one or two classes, depending on the number of students.  Flori’s Levels 2 & 3 will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10-1130 and 1145-1315 (probably one of each level on each day?) and Jose Enrique’s Level 4 class will be on Friday at 0915. (see level information below)

We will continue to update this section with the  current information regarding  cost, day/times, venue, etc.

Spring 2011 Classes
Wednesday, 08 June 2011

ChiFRA Spanish classes are wrapping up for the 2011 spring session.  This was the third 12-week session of the classes and the second for which we made an extension of at least some of the classes.  This time we had seven different classes of varying levels from basic to advanced.  The one month extension was made for the advanced class and one of the intermediate level classes.  We have increased our teacher pool to three with the addition of Jose Enrique Vidal from Rosa do los Vientos school, who taught the advanced class.  His students have great things to say about him.
